Cefmendorate sodium is a second generation cephalosporin antibiotic with strong bactericidal effect. It has some advantages of the first and third generation cephalosporins. It is stable to beta-lactamase and has a broad spectrum of antimicrobial activity. The antimicrobial activity of cefmendol sodium is only 1/10-1/5 of that of cefmendol. Cefmendol sodium can hydrolyze into cefmendol rapidly when it enters the body, so the antimicrobial activity of cefmendol sodium and cefmendol sodium is basically the same in vivo. Cefmendol has strong antimicrobial activity against most Gram-positive cocci. Its activity is similar to that of cefalothine and cefazolin. Enterococcus and methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus are resistant to this product.
